52 Weeks Of Photo Challenges

A theme based photo blog

15. Decay

I was poking around in my flower gardens this evening and ran across these mushrooms growing in my decaying mulch. Seeing the mushrooms always make me think about mushroom hunting as a kid in Indiana. We would walk through the woods in the spring time hunting for morel mushrooms. We would wash up a mess of them. Roll them in flour and fry them in butter. A little salt and pepper and you were in heaven! Makes my mouth water…

I’m also reminded when I see mushrooms like this that they are not all good to eat. When I was about 5 years old my Mom caught me in the yard playing house or something. I had squished them up in a bottle and making a meal out of them. She promptly took me to the hospital to have my stomach pumped. That was the last time I ate a mushroom without someone telling me first that it was safe to eat.

Author: Mindy Towns

Hi, my name is Mindy Towns, I live in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Along with several friends I have been participating in a weekly, theme based, photo blog since August 2012. Each year we receive a new list of 52 themes. We then post a photo each week that fits one of the themes along with a brief description about why we feel the photo fits the theme. Over the years I have learned a lot about my camera, new photography technics and also a lot about my fellow bloggers. I've peeked into their homes, met their families and traveled to exotic places through their photos. This year I am challenging myself further by trying to become even more creative in my posts. I found the cutest little Playmobil person complete with a camera and a little dog. She is going to be my little personal assistant over the coming months. I'm going to use many of the photo skills I have learned from participating in the photo challenge along with some new photoshop tools I have been practicing. I hope you will continue to follow my blog as I change things up a bit this year. Perhaps some of you will raid someones toy chest or toss something cute into your Target shopping cart and get a little silly with me. If you want to see examples of my grown up photography please visit one of my links listed on this blogs home page!

  1. While it is a funny story now, I am sure it was not so funny when it happened.

  2. Great photo. I don’t know that I would eat mushrooms ever again!

  3. That made me chuckle but I bet you didn’t when you had your stomach pumped . Can’t see a like button on your page ?

    • Glad you got a chuckle Patricia. I was laughing when I wrote the post. 🙂 I think it was scarier for my Mom than it was for me. Thanks for the heads up about the like button. I’m not sure how that happened. But I fixed it!

  4. That’s a scary story! I never dared eat a wild mushroom.

  5. Mushrooms are great. Glad someone else knows what’s good and not. It makes it easier to eat them. The only morels I have had were the dried ones that have to be hydrated. Not sure if they would taste the same. I will be making mushroom ravioli next week for my friend’s anniversary. Yummmm!!
