Today I took a stroll through the farmers market in downtown Sarasota. That is one place that you are sure to find a photo or two that will fit one of our themes.
It didn’t take me long to notice this very cheerful woman walking down the street with her market purchases. I loved her brightly colored umbrella that she was using to shade herself from the bright sunshine. I imagined that she bought herself fresh flowers every week to brighten her downtown apartment. Next to the vase of flowers I picture a wooden bowl filled with fresh fruits.
I chose to do a layer “mask” on the photo in hopes to show others what a scene looks like to me when I am holding my camera. Sometimes it feels as if I have tunnel vision. My eyes dart from person to person, place to place. My mind imagines what people are thinking, where they are going, what they are feeling.
I saw this video post recently on a friends Facebook page. I think about it a lot when I am out walking around taking photos. You just never really know what’s inside others’ hearts.

I really like that video as well. I’ve been visiting a friend in a hospital recently. I can’t walk down the halls without thinking about the video and what others are going through in their lives.

I hope you can go back to the market and hand her a copy of this photo. It’s lovely!

I don’t know who she was Karen… 😦 I only took the one photo and wasn’t sure until I got home how it was even going to turn out. When Patricia is with me she always encourages me to tell the person and give them my card. Then I can follow up by sending them a copy. I didn’t do that this time.

I love the technique you have used. I have not tried that yet. Must give it a go. The black and white and the subject in colour work well together.

Marcia I did a layer mask on this particular photo. This tutorial, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgmTl2Hbdsc gives you a better idea how I did this. You can go to http://www.Lynda.com to find all sorts of great tutorials. There is also a great app you can get at http://macphun.com/colorstrokes
It allows you to easily do this with an app for your iPad or iPhone! Let me know if you have more questions! Happy to help if I can. 🙂
